The first IT Coach for Business Leaders podcast episode of 2018 begins a two-part discussion on IT Security, the third topic area in the series – Top 3 Small Business IT Challenges.
When it comes to IT Security, the first thing to know is that it is going to be a hassle. IT Security is going to take time to fully address and there can be significant cost involved, depending on the type and size of business.
When it comes to time, it is crucial for a company’s leadership to be involved in the discussion surrounding IT Security. Addressing security concerns requires making decisions about prioritizing a company’s most valuable digital assets, and choosing the adequate levels of protection. If these discussions and decisions are left to the IT department, budget may not be adequately balanced between security and other IT needs.
Another consideration about IT Security is the human factor. Not all aspects of IT Security are new technology implementations, like the hardware and software that can help prevent intrusion and protect assets. A large portion of IT Security depends on having defined company policies and adequate employee training and awareness.
